The short version: we don't collect any data. Sum Rockets has no accounts, no ads, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party code that collects data. Its App Store privacy label is “Data Not Collected”.
1. Who we are
Sum Rockets is made by an independent developer based in the UK. If you have any questions about privacy, email support@sumrockets.co.uk.
2. What we don't collect
- We don't collect, receive or store any information about you or your child. We have no servers that the app talks to.
- There are no accounts to create and no sign-in.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party code that collects data.
- The optional Friends feature uses Apple's iCloud to share a few game details directly between two families' own iCloud accounts. We can't see that data either (section 4).
3. What's stored on your iPhone
Everything you and your child enter in the app stays on your device:
- each child's name (or a nickname), avatar, school year and daily goal;
- question settings and app settings (sounds, reminder time and so on);
- practice history – every answer, how long it took, the rounds played, stars, badges, journey progress and Star Shop items.
The app does not sync this to iCloud, and it is never sent to us. Like any app's data, it is included in your iPhone's backups if you use them.
4. Friends (optional, controlled by parents)
Friends lets children see a weekly league and send friendly maths challenges to children from families you know. It's off until a parent adds a friend, and it works through Apple's iCloud (CloudKit) sharing between the two families – there is no Sum Rockets server.
What a friend's family can see
| Shared item | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Your child's friend card | The name you choose to show friends (it starts as your child's first name – you can change it to a nickname, 1–12 letters), avatar animal and colour, school year, current stop on the space journey, stars earned this week and last week, and whether scores are shown. It also has a random ID made only for Friends. |
| The invite | When it was made, the invite link, and the shown name, animal and colour of the child it's from (so the other family can see who it's from before accepting). |
| Challenges | The challenge type, its 20 questions, who sent it (the random Friends ID) and when. |
| Challenge results | Number right, number of questions, total and average time, and when it was played. Each child's individual answers are never shared. |
Nothing else is shared – no real surnames, photos, location, reports or settings. There is no chat and children can't type messages to each other.
How it's kept safe
- Only a parent, inside the parent area behind the parental gate, can make an invite, accept one or remove a friend.
- Each invite is a one-time link that expires after 24 hours.
- Shared data is stored in the two families' own iCloud accounts under Apple's Privacy Policy. We can't access it. The app never shows, stores or uses anyone's Apple Account name or email.
- Removing a friend stops sharing straight away and deletes your child's shared information. If your family made the invite, the whole shared space is deleted. Removing a child from the app also removes their Friends data.
- A parent can hide their child's scores from friends at any time.
5. Purchases
The one-off “Unlock everything” purchase is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details or Apple Account. Restoring a purchase and Family Sharing also work through Apple.
6. Notifications
- Daily practice reminder (optional). If a parent turns it on, the reminder is created on your iPhone and is never sent to us. It's only sent on days when a child hasn't practised yet, and it never includes a child's or family's name – for example “🚀 Time for today's mission! Your rocket is waiting.” You can turn it off in the parent area or in iOS Settings.
- Friends updates (optional). When something changes in Friends, Apple's iCloud sends your iPhone a silent signal so the app can check for updates. The app may then show a general notice that never includes a child's or family's name: “🚀 Someone joined from your Sum Rockets invite”, “🚀 A new challenge is waiting on Sum Rockets” or “🚀 A friend finished your challenge”. These can be turned off with “Friends notifications” in the parent area.
7. Parental gate
The parent area is protected by a grown-ups-only check. It covers settings, reports, purchases and restoring them, Friends, and every link that leaves the app.
8. Children's privacy
Sum Rockets is designed for children. We follow the UK GDPR and the ICO's Age Appropriate Design Code, and the app is built to meet the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We don't knowingly collect any personal information from children – or from anyone.
9. Third-party code
The app includes ConfettiSwiftUI, a small open-source animation library used for celebrations, and the Nunito font. Neither collects or sends any data. Their licences are listed in the app under Parent area → Licences.
10. Deleting data
- To remove one child: Parent area → the child's Edit profile → Remove. This deletes their data from your iPhone and their Friends data.
- To remove a friend: Parent area → Friends → choose the friend → Remove friend.
- To remove everything: delete the app. iCloud data used by Friends can be managed in iOS Settings → [your name] → iCloud.
11. Your rights and complaints
Because we don't hold any information about you, there's nothing for us to access, correct or delete – but if you have a question or concern, please email support@sumrockets.co.uk. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, the new version will be shown here with a new effective date.
